We are honored and thrilled to have Rita Williams MC our event again this year.
Rita Williams was a leader in the first wave of women reporters on television 43 years ago, reporting hard news and investigative stories. She recently retired from KTVU-TV (Channel 2) where she worked the last 35 years. She was known for her many exclusives and is the recipient of some of the highest awards in broadcast journalism: among them three Emmy Awards including one of the highest given…the Governor’s Award for lifetime achievement, a Peabody Award, Edward R. Murrow Awards, and many more.
She was also named an outstanding journalism alum from Texas Tech University where she received her bachelor’s degree. She later earned a master’s degree at George Washington University while working on Capitol Hill for her hometown Congressman and was selected for a prestigious year-long Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University where she also taught.
Rita now serves on the Board of Directors at JobTrain OICW, Pathways Hospice and Friends of Faith Fancher, an organization started by her late colleague and friend to raise money for low-income men and women with breast cancer. She volunteers for many other causes and organizations in the Bay Area and is a frequent speaker and emcee.
